I am writing to you from the Delta Skyclub in Atlanta, Ga. Today is “Fathers Day” and it really made me think about something that happened to me in LA this weekend. I was invited to participate in a symposium put on by a very well known Health and Wellness formulator, author, and speaker as well as…my friend. When I walked into the venue at Marina Del Rey, I got mobbed by two very special people, Joshua and Emma, (they are two of my friends children) and they made me feel right at home! They were so loving and quick to tell me how they so look forward to receiving my “Wholetones" emails every week…I was floored. These beautiful children had never met me before, yet they immediately (and intelligently) engaged me in a conversation that inspired this email. So Joshua and Emma, this email is all because of you!
I am sure you have heard the phrase, “The nut doesn’t fall too far from the tree.” That statement can go either way…what it all boils down to is progeny.
progeny |ˈpräjənē|
noun [ treated as sing. or pl. ]
a descendant or the descendants of a person, animal, or plant; offspring.
You can tell a lot about someone by their progeny (produce or “fruit”). In Matthew 7:16-20, we read, “You will know them by their fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes, nor figs from thistles, are they? So every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. So then, you will know them by their fruits.”
In todays culture, many live, “for the moment” without thinking about the future, and this entitlement mentality is focused more on taking than it is giving. As you can imagine, a society that consumes more than it creates is not sustainable long term. When we look at the overwhelming negligence by our government concerning the economy, not to mention our titanic national debt, there is the sense that the next generation will be saddled with a liability instead of an asset. As a generation shouldn’t we be concerned for the next one? When it comes to accomplishments, wouldn’t we want our ceiling to be the next generations floor? You can see why so many are losing hope…but then I saw it…Joshua and Emma! Joshua means, “Jehovah is salvation” and Emma means, “God with us.” Looking into their precious faces gave me hope for the future. Those two kids and many more like them will change their world. You see it’s all about displacement…you can try to treat polluted water with chemicals or you can keep pouring pure water into polluted water until the polluted water is displaced by the pure! I can focus on the myriad of problems/challenges our world has or I can focus on the solution, the seed, healthy wonderful examples of the next generation like Joshua and Emma.
At Wholetones, I am dedicated to creating only that which can outlive me and in doing so, radically affect the generations to come. Its time that our vision becomes panoramic instead of myopic. I am challenging you today dear Wholetones family… to live to give, and begin to think about what you can do that will affect generations to come not just the microwave mentality of the, eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we die entitlement junkies. You can’t leave a legacy without creating progeny…Jesus cursed the fig tree for one reason…it didn’t produce fruit! If you have a seed, you have a future! When God wanted to rescue (save) generations to come, he planted the ultimate seed into the Earth…His Son! Isaiah 9:6, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
You have the capacity to become a tree of life for the next generation…maybe we just need to build a bridge and get over ourselves so we can see the amazing opportunity that is right before our eyes. Fulfill your destiny by creating progeny that will leave a legacy. Watch your email closely over the next 90 days. We are about to ride the whitewater of new developments together. I have been tight lipped for a reason, prepare to be amazed.
